I’m Gael, the Curator of Archaeology – from prehistory to contemporary. I have been working here for 20 years, so have a wealth of knowledge about the collections.
Our collections management system is an important tool for my role. I use it to write and amend collections information, support acquisitions, loans and disposals, and create a number of different reports for a range of purposes.
I often wonder if I spend more time with the system than the collections themselves! It has sometimes been hard to understand how to use new systems over the years, so I am glad that there are a number of ways for me to navigate this one, and integrate it with my assistive technologies.

Due to a medical condition, I now find it hard to navigate spaces, pick up heavy objects and remain on my feet for long periods of time without the use of a cane or stick. I therefore need access to seating and support retrieving, moving and handling collections.
