<div class="evocative-info-item"> A circular metal drum with smooth enamelled white surface mounted on a three footed base, itself bolted to a concrete plinth. The drum has horizontal raised ribs and four sub-5mm holes located mid height one at each quadrant. It has a fixed lid with a butterfly bolt in the centre top. When the bolt is unscrewed the whole drum can be lifted clear revealing a black metal frame with four curved panels. Each panel is slotted to so a gridded sheet of light sensitive paper can be inserted and removed. The device is mounted so that the four pin holes in the drum casing orientate with the compass points. As light penetrates through a hole a negative dark tracing is cast onto the sensitive paper inside – tracking the passage of the sun, or the flash of a nuclear explosion. </div>
