Proprioception
This item was one of thousands, used as confetti during the closing ceremony of the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing. The confetti would have been released into the air, above the crowds in the stadium. We can imagine the confetti landing on the people below, or on the seating and ground.
We can imagine the confetti fluttering down in the air slowing, twisting and turning. Some of the pieces of confetti may have landed on people bodies. They may have brushed it off or trod on confetti on the ground. The confetti may have only been in the air for a few minutes, but they would have been around an individual for a longer period.
Against the skin, the fabric of the confetti is smooth and soft. You may not notice if it landed on your hair or clothes, as it is light.
The idea of the confetti around me recalls similar events where confetti has been released. It feels celebratory, and another reason someone may not realise there is confetti on them is due to the other sensory experiences happening in the moment. I imagine the visual of the confetti in the air would be visually memorising, and add a huge amount of colour to the stadium.
